Misconceptions About Children Lying
Misconceptions About Children Lying is an evidence-informed professional development course for childcare leaders, RECEs, assistants, and other professionals who work with young children. Explore why children lie, how executive function and theory of mind influence deception, and why inaccurate statements do not always mean intentional lying. Learn practical ways to respond without shame, support honesty and accountability, preserve a child’s dignity, and understand how adult reactions can encourage truth-telling or concealment. The course also addresses an essential boundary: when a child’s statement may suggest abuse, neglect, or serious harm, safety and child-protection responsibilities come first.
